1. Leaving Cert students to have option of written exams and calculated grades

This year’s Leaving Cert will go ahead with a choice for students between written exams and calculated grades. Each 6th-year student will be given a calculated grade for every subject and the choice of sitting the written exam for that subject.

2. Four to be charged in connection with Golfgate

Four people are to be charged in connection with organising an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Co Galway. The event took place at a hotel in Clifden in August of last year and breached Covid-19 regulations in place at the time with over 80 attendees.

3. Number of Covid-19 cases in Waterford dropped by one-third last week

The level of Covid-19 in Waterford fell by more than a third last week. That’s according to the latest epidemiology report from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. Meanwhile its hoped that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be able to help accelerate the vaccine rollout because it is easier to administer. Find out more about the vaccine here.

4. Bike rental scheme in Waterford City to begin this year

Around 15 bicycle docking stations will be erected in Waterford City before the end of the year. According to Waterford Council around 160 bikes will be available as part of the ‘Public Bike Rental Scheme’.
