1. Cabinet discusses Level 4 for border counties as North locks down
The cabinet is meeting this evening to discuss increased restrictions for the border counties as Northern Ireland announced that schools and many businesses will close for a number of weeks.
2.Aaron Brady sentenced to life in prison for Garda Adrian Donohoe murder
Aaron Brady has been given life for the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe. The Central Criminal Court also sentenced Brady to 14 years for robbery, a sentence that will run concurrently with the life sentence.
3. Mary Butler flags new memory clinic for Waterford
Funding has been provided in Budget 2021 to open a Memory Clinic in Waterford for people with dementia. The clinics provide a range of services for people worried about their memory or cognitive problems.
4. Stardust pre-inquiry gets underway
The fresh inquest into the deaths of 48 people in a nightclub fire in Artane on Valentine’s night 1981 is due to take place next year in Dublin Castle. A pre-inquest hearing into the tragedy began earlier today and was told that there was “State-sponsored effort to cover up” what happened almost 40 years ago.
5. Molumby starts for Ireland against Finland
Cappoquin native Jayson Molumby has started for The Republic of Ireland in their UEFA Nations League clash with Finland. As of 6pm there was still no score in that game.
6. Oscar nominated director takes to Twitter to deny Bono Biopic
Irish film director Lenny Abrahamson, who directed TV hit Normal People, as well as Oscar nominated movie Room, took to Twitter earlier to deny a report in the Sunday World that he is to direct a biopic about U2 frontman Bono.
