1. Second lowest daily tally of Covid cases this year.
There are 271 new cases of Covid-19 in the Republic, which is the second lowest daily tally this year. It comes as Health Minister Stephen Donnelly confirmed that over 3 million vaccine doses have now been administered in Ireland. More than 50% of the adult population have received one dose, while around 25% have received two doses and are fully vaccinated.
2 Additional third-level places will ease pressure says Foley ahead of Leaving Cert start
Minister for Education Norma Foley has said additional third-level places this year will ease demand caused by increased applications and the potential impact of accredited grades. Speaking ahead of the beginning of the Leaving Certificate written exams tomorrow, Ms Foley said “we’re actually talking really of an increase of just 300 Leaving Cert students”.
3. Pride Flag to be flown again in Waterford city tomorrow
The Pride Flag will be raised once more in Waterford city tomorrow afternoon. It comes after the previous banners on The Mall were burned in the early hours of Monday morning. The attack came at the end of the Pride of the Deise festival for the LGBTQ+ community. Gardaí are investigating the incident and treating it as criminal damage.
4. RNLI appeal for people to check vessels following rescue
The RNLI in Dunmore East are asking people to check that their vessels are seaworthy before taking them out following a rescue over the weekend. On Sunday a 4m fishing vessel with four people on-board lost its propeller and was drifting onto Falskirt Rock, 3 miles South West of Dunmore East.
5. Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland side looking for 2 wins on the trot
Following their win over Andorra last week, the Republic of Ireland soccer squad will face Hungary in a friendly this evening with a 7pm kick off. The captains armband has been handed to John Egan after Seamus Coleman travelled home with a hamstring injury.
6. New Diana documentary to mark her 60th birthday
A new documentary about Princess Diana will aim to tell “the definitive story of the most famous woman in the world” to mark what would have been her 60th birthday. The one-off ITV film, entitled Diana, will use never-heard-before testimony and rarely seen archive footage, as well as photos and letters from those close to her to trace her journey from nursery assistant to royal family.
