1. Vaccine plan gives priority to frontline workers and older people
Ireland’s Covid-19 vaccine roll-out strategy has been approved by Cabinet, giving priority to frontline workers and older people. Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has also confirmed the vaccine will be available free of charge for everyone in the country to ensure equal access to the jab.
2. Delays accessing children’s services in Waterford
Vulnerable children and families face long delays in getting child protection and welfare services in the south-east. In a new report, the health watchdog says waiting lists in Waterford and Wexford need improvement.
3. Minister urges hurling fans not to over-do celebrations
Former health minister Simon Harris is urging GAA fans not to over-do their celebrations during the All-Ireland final weekends. Waterford take on Limerick in the All Ireland Hurling Final this Sunday, while the All Ireland Football Finals are on Saturday Week.
4. Over 25,000 raised for Portlaw teen devastated by family tragedy
A Co Waterford community has rallied at least 25,000 euro for a 15-year-old local girl who has been devastated by a family tragedy. Eabha Mansfield lost her mam Pamela (51) to cancer in October, just weeks after her father, Mattie (53) , suffered a major cardiac arrest. Her sister Ciara spoke to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today.
5. Solas Centre launches Stars For Life tree
The Solas Centre today launch their Stars For Life Tribute tree with a fabulous concert, broadcast live WLR. The lights on the tree will be switched on at 7:30pm this evening and you can create a star for the tree by clicking here. 6. 40th anniversary of John Lennon death
40 years ago today, Beatles frontman John Lennon was shot to death outside his apartment block in New York by Mark Chapman. Today his former band mate Ringo Starr encouraged every radio station in the world to play Strawberry Fields in his memory, and we obliged on WLR.
