1.Taoiseach announces next phase of restrictions

Taoiseach Michael Martin is currently giving an address to the nation which will outline the next phase of restrictions. Early indications point to two fully vaccinated people being allowed to meet indoors and we  could see retail and personal services like hairdressers open in May.

2. Lifting lockdown too early would cause Covid wave lasting until summer

The Government has been warned that lifting restrictions too early could cause another wave of Covid-19 lasting into the summer. Ministers were also told by public health officials that the State has not vaccinated enough people to take risks when it comes to easing lockdown.

3. €1.64m to be spent on new Ophthalmology Theatre @ UHW

A new Ophthalmology Theatre will be established at University Hospital Waterford (UHW). The theatre on Level 2 of the hospital has been included in the Health Service’s 2021 Capital Programme.

4. Waterfront owner says planning refusal ‘a missed opportunity’

5. Plans for a community boathouse on the River Suir

The Waterford Dragon Warriors and the Deise Boat club are among those joining forces to set up an access point to the River at Bilberry with storage for non-motorised craft. The project is expected to cost in the region of 750 thousand euro and a GoFundMe campaign has been launched.

6. Dementia campaign raises €1m following Jack Charlton documentary

Viewers have heaped praise on the Finding Jack Charlton documentary, which had its Irish premiere on Virgin Media as part of a campaign that raised €1 million for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
