1. Level 5 extended until 5th March and stricter rules for visitors

The government held a press conference this afternoon to announce new restrictions signed off by the cabinet earlier today. As anticipated, Level 5 has been extended until March 5th, with Tainiste Leo Varadkar hinting at phased opening of schools before that date. The government has also introduced stricter rules for people travelling into the country but refused to close down the country entirely. 2. Waterford woman avoids jail term for vicious assault at Westlife concert

A woman who launched a “frightening, vicious and unprovoked” attack on a fellow attendee of a Westlife concert 18 months ago has avoided a jail term. Jackie Walsh (26) split the victim’s ear lobe during the attack after her earring got caught up when Walsh was pulling fistfuls of the woman’s hair.

3. Man accused of using hook to steal thousands from Waterford church collection boxes

Gardaí have arrested and charged a man in relation to a series of thefts from churches in East Cork and West Waterford which involved thousands of euro in cash being taken out of collection boxes.

4. Ten year old faced operation alone as Covid hit family

A 10-year old Waterford boy whose whole family had Covid-19 had to go to hospital alone for an operation, a Tramore GP told last night’s National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) briefing.

5. Fundraising page for injured hurler gets huge support

6. Premier League changes offside guidance after outcry at City's goal

Officials in English soccer have been told to change their interpretation of the offside rule. Aston Villa were livid last week after Manchester City's Rodri came from an offside position to steal the ball off Tyrone Mings. The Aston Villa manager, Dean Smith, was sent off for protesting against Manchester City’s first goal, which was ultimately scored by Bernardo Silva.
