1. HSE ‘concerned’ over virus increase in Co Waterford
The HSE is encouraging people throughout West Waterford to avail of a temporary “pop-up” test centre in Dungarvan, due to open this Thursday until Saturday. It comes following a suspected cluster of Covid-19 cases in An Rinne, with the short-term closure of a number of sports clubs and businesses.
2. Government encouraging take up of second vaccine
The Government's urging the take up of the second Covid vaccine. It follows concerns about the Delta variant which accounts for one in five new cases here. This evening health officials have confirmed 294 new cases of Covid-19 across the country. Health Minister Stephen Donnelly says they’re keeping a close eye on it.
3. Over 4,600 people driving on learner permits for over 21 years – report
Newstalk reports freedom of information figures show almost 9,000 drivers have had only a learner permit for over 16 years. The figures also show 2,500 learner drivers received penalty points for not having a fully qualified driver accompanying them.
4. Waterford may soon be twinned with a West Bank city
Waterford may soon be twinned with a Palestinian city in the West Bank. Metropolitan councillors have voted in favour of formally linking the city with Ramallah. The motion was supported by all parties and independents at today’s council meeting and will now be sent forward to the wider council for a seal of approval.
5. Six Irish players named to start for Lions against Japan
The British and Irish Lions have picked six Irish players to start Saturday’s historic home international against Japan. Tadhg Beirne and Jack Conan make their debuts under Welsh captain Alun Wyn Jones in the opener in Edinburgh, while Conor Murray, Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki and Iain Henderson also get the nod for the starting XV.
6. Pilot music festival to take place next month
A pilot music festival, with 3,500 people in attendance, is to take place in Dublin next month. The first large scale music event to happen in 16 months will take place in the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) at The Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Saturday July 3rd. Gavin James will headline the event with Irish acts Denise Chaila and Wyvern Lingo also taking to the stage. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 9am on Ticketmaster.ie
