1. Government to take no further action against Seamus Woulfe
The government has said it will be taking “no further steps” in the ongoing controversy over Seámus Woulfe’s position on the Supreme Court. The decision was taken at Cabinet this morning and effectively rules out an impeachment motion being moved by the government.
2. Man in his 40s dies in Kilkenny crash
A man has died in a single-vehicle collision in Co. Kilkenny. The incident occurred on the N76 at Killamery, Callan.
3.Fines for outdoor pints scrapped
Government plans to give Gardaí new powers to fine people who gather outside to drink alcohol have been abandoned. The plans were rejected by cabinet earlier today following opposition from The Green Party and Fine Gael. Gardai are instead to enforce existing laws. 4. Works on Carrolls Cross junction to start next year
Works at the Carroll’s Cross junction on the N25 are expected to get underway in March of 2021. The location has been the site of a number of fatal accidents in recent years.
5. James Ryan to captain Ireland in England clash at Twickenham
James Ryan is to captain Ireland from the start for the first time when he leads his country against England at Twickenham on Saturday. It comes as Johnny Sexton is ruled out of the match. Ryan says its a huge honour.
6. Dolly Parton part funds new Covid- vaccine
Legendary country singer Dolly Parton says she just wanted to "do good" when she funded research into a Covid-19 vaccine. Parton was namechecked in the preliminary report from US company Moderna who released details this week of a vaccine that they say is 94.5% effective. Parton gave $1 million to Vanderbelt University Medical Centre in Nashville in Tennessee.
