1. WIT propose air dome to facilitate 10 thousand people
Waterford IT are proposing plans to build a 15,000 sq metre air dome at their Carriganore Campus. They say the structure would be the ‘biggest of its kind in the world’, and would allow 10,000 people to attend cultural, economic, and sporting events.
2. Cullinane slams governments "rushed" plan for indoor dining
Talks between government officials and the hospitality sector have taken place this afternoon, on the indoor dining legislation. Labour leader Alan Kelly said that the legislation was “full of holes” and that his party would only support it if amendments the party is bringing forward were accepted by government. While Sinn Féin member of the committee, Waterford TD David Cullinane, says that the legislation was “rushed” and “unworkable”.
3. Councillor fears hunt for new north quays developer is “losing momentum”
Fianna Fail councillor Eddie Mulligan says he’s “aghast” that a commercial advisor to attract a new developer to the site has still not been appointed – eight weeks after the deal with Falcon Real Estate fell through. Speaking to Damien Tiernan on Deise Today this morning councillor Eddie Mulligan said the work on the advisor role is not happening fast enough.
4. Bathing prohibited at six locations in Waterford
People are being asked to avoid swimming at six locations across Waterford due to high levels of bacteria. Bathing is currently prohibited until further notice at Owenashad River (Lismore), Tramore Pier, Whiting Bay, Goat Island, Curragh and Woodstown beaches.
5. FAI Cup draw takes place this evening
Waterford FC will find out who they face in the first round of the FAI cup later this evening as the draw takes place at 6:30pm. All SSE Airtricity League sides are in the draw, as well as 12 non-league sides who progressed through the qualifying round.
6. Marcus Rashford mural restored
The mural of Manchester United and England footballer Marcus Rashford in his hometown of Withington, South Manchester, had been vandalised with racist comments following his penalty miss in the Euros finals on Sunday. However locals soon flocked to cover the abuse with notes dedicated to the champ, and now the mural has been restored.
Monday: vandalised mural was covered in love hearts and heartfelt messages.
Today: the mural is repainted and repaired.
