1. One millionith vaccination administered
It comes as 6 new walk-in Covid test centres are to open across the country this weekend, including one in Waterford. Meanwhile people are being encouraged to take Vitamin D supplements. The Oireachtas Health Committee’s report, published today, says low levels of the vitamin have been linked to worse health outcomes in relation to Covid-19.
2. Violence continues in Belfast
Another night of unrest on the streets of Belfast has been widely condemned by political leaders in Belfast, Dublin and London. Bus drivers held a protest earlier today after a bus was burnt out on the streets of Belfast last night.
3. Waterford musician threatened with fine
A busker in Waterford has been threatened with a fine of up to €3,000 if she does not cease playing on the city’s streets. Joy O’Keefe, who regularly draws people to her jazz playing at the People’s Park and John Roberts Square, blasted the warning as “appalling” as she plays in “wide open” areas where the “majority of businesses” are closed.
4. Gardai warn of scam calls and texts
Gardaí and the Department of Social Protection said they are aware of a scam where people receive phone calls and texts from people fraudulently saying they are from the Department of Social Protection and their PPS number has been compromised.
5. GAA announce 2021 fixtures
Waterford will play Limerick Cork Galway Tipperary & Westmeath in 1A of the hurling league. The football leagues commence a week later. The Deise footballers will play Wexford & Carlow in Division 4.
6. Mount Congreve Gardens announce opening date
The gardens will re-open four days per week from 10 am to 5.30 pm with the last entry at 4 pm from Thursday to Sunday inclusive and will open for all of the summer bank holidays. Visitors must pre-book a ticket to access the gardens in advance at www.mountcongreve.com as a limited number of tickets will be available for each day.
