1. Possible further restrictions on international travel as hospitalisations plateau

The government is considering further restrictions on international travel following advice from NPHET. It comes as the coalition has softened its stance on pursuing a Zero-COVID style approach. Meanwhile the chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan said Ireland has made great progress in recent weeks in “radically reducing the transmission” of Covid-19, but remains in a “very vulnerable position”.

2. Woman approached with a baseball bat at her Paddocks home

Gardai in Waterford are appealing for witnesses following a public order incident at a house at the Paddocks in the Williamstown area of Waterford. At twenty to four on Wednesday afternooon, a woman contacted gardai to say three males had arrived at her front door with a baseball bat.

3. Minister re-affirms commitment to Tech Uni for South East

Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris was speaking at a new Regional Engagement Advisory Group, attended by Presidents of IT Carlow and WIT and business leaders for the area.

4. Waterford Brothel sentencing criticised

A group campaigning for sex workers has criticised the punishment dealt to a woman guilty of running a brothel in Waterford. The woman was this week ordered to return to her native Poland by the judge or else serve a year in prison.

5. Energia All Ireland Rugby League Cancelled

The IRFU announced earlier today that all fixtures for the Energia All Ireland League for men and women have been cancelled for the 2020/2021 season. They say they will now work with clubs to look at the completion of the Engeria Community Series and to review alternative forms of rugby, such as Lucozade Sport Touch and Volkswagen Tag.

6. Could the price of the Blaa be about to go up??

Bakers are warning the price of a sliced pan and even the Waterford Blaa could rise this year because of ingredient shortages. It follows a bad harvest in Britain — and the imposition of trade tariffs on Canadian wheat for British mills.
