1. Astra Zeneca vaccine is 'safe and effective'
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has said that the AstraZeneca vaccine is safe and effective and that it is not associated with an increased risk of blood clots. It comes as community demand for Covid-19 tests has increased by more than nine per cent in the last week.
2. Waterford people warned against 'Covid complacency'.
A UHW Surgical Pathologist has warned against ‘Covid complacency’ in order to avoid a fourth wave of the disease. Rob Landers, a former Clinical Director at the hospital, says the third wave has seen people longer in hospital, sicker for longer and getting more long-term symptoms.
3. Farmers call for deer cull
The deer population in West Waterford has grown exponentially in recent times and farmers are calling for the wild animals to be culled. According to Cllr Pat Nugent Sika and Fallow deer are roaming fields and forests from Knockanore to Ardmore.
4. Significant rise in price of land in Waterford
Despite the pandemic, 2020 was a good year for selling land with the average price of farmland up 15% nationally according to the Irish Farmers Journal’s annual 72-page county by county land price report
5. Blackmore on course to win leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival
Rachael Blackmore could well finish up leading rider at the Cheltenham Festival tomorrow. The Tipperary jockey got her fourth and fifth winner this afternoon. If she manages to finish as top jockey she will be the first woman to do so. Her trainer, Waterford's Henry De Bromhead, was singing her praises on Deise Today earlier today. Listen back here.
