1. 40,000 fewer vaccinations than expected this week

Ireland will likely administer 40,000 fewer vaccines this week than had been expected. This is because of disruption caused by the AstraZeneca vaccine. Use of the jab has been suspended for most age groups over blood clot fears. Meanwhile over 18,000 people have so far registered their details on the HSE’s online portal.

2. Sinn Fein councillor steps down

Waterford Sinn Féin Councillor Breda Brennan is stepping down from the council next month. She was first elected in 2014 and has served as the Metropolitan Mayor. Meanwhile Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane says his party have not breached any data protection laws with their voter database. It’s understood the personal information of voters is being stored on an internal party database.

3. New tenants union established in Waterford

A new tenants union in Waterford aims to tackle poor living conditions for renters in the city and county. CATU - the Community Action Tenants Union - is active in other cities and is based on the concept of a workers union, to demand better rights and conditions for members

4. Funding for water sport activities in Ardmore & Tramore

Waterford City & County Council has welcomed the news that two seaside locations in Waterford have been approved under the Fáilte Ireland Platforms for Growth 2 – Facility Centres for Water Sports Activities funding scheme. The facilities will provide secure changing facilities, hot showers and orientation space for activity providers will add to the overall tourism appeal of County Waterford.

5. New Lotto millionaire ticket sold in Kilkenny

The Lotto has confirmed that last night's winning lottery ticket worth €12.7 million, the fourth highest jackpot since the Lotto began, was sold in Co. Kilkenny. With restrictions still in place banning people from leaving their county, chances are that the newest millionaire is a Kilkenny native. The name of the shop where the ticket was sold will be released in the coming days.

6. New comedy starring Gleeson brothers starts tonight

Frank of Ireland, the new comedy drama written by and starring Brian and Domhnall Gleeson, starts on Channel 4 this evening at 10pm. The brothers' dad Brendan also co-stars along with other big names from Irish TV such as Sarah Greene (Dublin Murders), Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Love/Hate) and  Pat Shortt (Killinaskully).
