1. North Quays: ‘Committed’ developers; ‘Uncertain’ Council CEO and a ‘supportive’ government
The developers of the city’s North Quays have said they remain committed to the multi-million project – and will furnish evidence of their funding to Waterford council this afternoon. However Waterford city and county CEO Michael Walsh told a meeting of councillors that it was ‘unlikely’ the development would go ahead in partnership with Falcon Real Estate.
2. Woman remains in hospital following accident near Ballymacarbry
The incident involving a lorry and a car occurred this morning on the R671 north of Ballymacarbry and close to the Council depot. The collision is understood to have been serious, and one person has been taken to University Hospital Waterford.
3. Protestors outside UHW regarding maternity guidelines
A protest took place outside University Hospital Waterford this afternoon over maternity restrictions. The local hospital is one of just five maternity units in the country that is not fully compliant with HSE guidelines on easing restrictions for partners.
4. Waterford’s newest councillor looking forward to taking on the challenge
Joeanne Bailey has been co-opted by Sinn Féin to take the seat of Councillor Breda Brennan when she steps down later this month. Originally from Wexford, Ms Bailey has been a member of the party for 15 years.
5. Security stepped up as protests arranged for Manchester United V Liverpool clash
Manchester United have reportedly stepped up security at Old Trafford amid calls for fans to participate in another protest ahead of the rearranged fixture with Liverpool. Sky Sports report that the game, which is due to kick off at 8:15pm in Old Trafford, could be the focus of further angry protests against the Super League.
6. Prince Harry likens royal life to "The Truman Show"
Prince Harry has given an in-depth interview to actor Dax Shepherd on his podcast series Armchair Expert, saying life as a royal was “a mixture between The Truman Show and being in a zoo”. He went on to say that he wants to “break the cycle” of the “pain and suffering” of his upbringing with his own children.
