1. Lockdown could last until Easter - Over 70s vaccinated by mid-May
The majority of the current lockdown restrictions are set to be extended “until the Easter period”, the Taoiseach has said. While the health minister believes that people aged 70 and over should have received both doses of their Covid-19 vaccine by mid-May.
2. New countries on hotel quarantine list
20 countries now feature on the Government’s mandatory hotel quarantine list. They include Brazil, Austria, the UAE, South Africa and 16 countries within sub-Saharan Africa.
3. Leaving Cert decision to be made next week
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said a decision on this year’s Leaving Cert will take place next week to provide clarity for students. He said it was important for students to have class time to facilitate options and alternatives
4. Waterford hairdressers urged not to engage in ‘black market’ appointments
The President of the Irish Hairdressers Federation has appealed to Waterford hairdressers not to engage in so-called ‘black market hairdressing’ so that the entire industry can return as soon as possible.
5. Cahill frustrated at decision to remove intercounty games from “elite” status
Waterford hurling boss Liam Cahill says he is disappointed with the government decision to no longer include intercounty games in the bracket of elite sports.
6. 14 million euro for Waterford transport projects
23 sustainable transport projects in total in Waterford will benefit. The money will improve road infrastructure and allow for more cycle paths and footpaths, as part of a €240 million allocation to councils nationwide.
