1. €27.6m for ‘transformative’ projects for Waterford city centre

The money will be spent across a total of 22 projects around the city centre in the wider Viking Triangle & Cultural Quarter areas.

2. More EU countries pull AstraZeneca vaccine due to clotting concerns

Germany, France and Italy have become the latest countries to halt the use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, saying that a closer look was necessary. Ireland made the decision in recent days and today announced that 30,000 fewer doses than planned are due to be administered in Ireland this week as a result.

3. Helvick residents launch new offshore windfarm campaign

‘Waterford Offshore Wind Awareness Group’

A new campaign to locate all offshore windfarms at least 22km from the Irish coastline has been launched by residents of Helvick in West Waterford. It comes on foot of plans for a number of prospective windfarms off the Waterford coastline.

4. Stripe to create 1,000 Irish jobs over next five years

5. Walrus spotted off Irish coast after falling asleep on an iceberg

A five-year-old girl proved to be eagle-eyed when she spotted a walrus which was believed to have drifted over to Ireland from the Arctic. Alan Houlihan and his young daughter Muireann were walking along the coast of Valentia Island when she spotted the extremely rare giant mammal.

6. Wolfwalkers gets Oscar nod

Kilkenny animation studio Cartoon Saloon has been nominated for an Oscar for a fourth time. Their feature film Wolfwalkers will go up against Pixar and Disney at the award ceremony.
