1. Man arrested after woman’s body found in burning car in north Cork

The body of the 72 year old was discovered after gardaí were alerted to a burning car in the Doneraile area of Cork. A search of the area was carried out and a 62 year old man, who was known to the woman, was rescued by gardaí from a nearby river. This man is currently receiving medical attention in Cork University Hospital.

2. Hundreds fined at Dublin Airport in last week

Gardaí have fined hundreds of travellers at Dublin Airport who were leaving the country for non-essential travel over the last week.Officers have issued around 375 fines for non-essential journeys to airports or ports since January 29th, with gardaí reporting a total of 3,500 fines issued for non-essential travel within the Republic.

3. Leaving Cert 2021 to be held alongside ‘corresponding non-examination process’

New plans being drawn up by the Department of Education will see Leaving Certificate examinations take place in 2021 alongside a “corresponding non-examination process.” Education Minister Norma Foley said State examinations during the Covid-19 pandemic will involve the “two distinct processes”.

4. Sinn Féin calls for a review of laws around dogs attacking livestock

It’s claimed over 3,000 sheep are attacked by dogs every year, with the Department of Rural Affairs adding that 253 incidents of ‘Livestock Worrying’ were reported to local authorities in 2019. 20 sheep were killed in such an attack on a farm in West Waterford last year.

5. Waterford weather expert looks ahead to freezing weekend

Michael Kelly, who runs the Waterford City Weather website, joined The Big Breakfast Blaa crew this morning to discuss the freezing conditions expected from Sunday. Lots of comparisons have already been made to the weather event of 2018 which saw “The Beast from the East” and Storm Emma join forces to bring us a huge dump of snow in early March. 6. 'Smallest reptile on earth' discovered in Madagascar

Scientists believe they may have discovered the smallest reptile on earth - a chameleon subspecies that is the size of a seed. Two of the tiny lizards were discovered by a German-Madagascan expedition team in Madagascar. The male Brookesia nana, or nano-chameleon, has a body of just 13.5mm.
