1. Gardai upgrade investigation into deaths of mother and 2 sons to murder
Gardai say they have launched a murder investigation into the deaths of Seema Banu, Asfira Syed and Faizan Syed following the completion of post-mortem examinations.
The mother and her two sons were discovered in a house in Llewelyn Court, Balinteer, Dublin, on Wednesday. Gardai say the results of the post mortems are not being released for operational reasons.
2.Six dead as strong earthquake hits Turkey and Greece
An earthquake has struck in the Aegean Sea between the Turkish coast and the Greek island of Samos. Up to 6 people are thought to have died and 202 were injured as buildings collapsed in the city of Izmir. The earthquake also triggered a tsunami which claimed one life.
3.WIT and CIT join forces to establish Ireland’s first ‘Space Region’
Academics in Waterford and Cork have joined forces to establish Ireland’s first-ever ‘Space Region’. Waterford IT and Cork IT have formed the Society, Economy and Environment Space network in a partnership which will potentially build links to international space organisations such as the European Space Agency.
4. Wind warning and blue moon on the way
Met Eireann has issued two status orange wind warnings for tomorrow as Storm Aiden is set to make landfall. An alert for Waterford will come into effect from 5 am until 10 am tomorrow with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour expected. Meanwhile The first full moon seen over Ireland on Halloween since the 1970s is set to grace the skies tomorrow night in an event that will not be seen again for another two decades.
