1. Cabinet approves further easing of restrictions
Taoiseach Michael Martin is due to make an announcement around now (6pm) on the exact details of the easing of restrictions on indoor dining, international travel and live events over the summer. Ministers signed off on plans that will see hotels open on June 2nd, outdoor dining on June 7th, and indoor dining on the 5th of July. Ireland will adopt the digital green cert and allow international travel from July 19th.
2. Waterford en-route to become a University City of International significance
So says Waterford Minister of State Mary Butler after TUI members at both WIT and IT Carlow last night voted in favour of the memorandum of understanding, which will enable the establishment of a Technological University.
3. PUP and black market nixers have created ‘staffing crisis’ for hair salons
Hair salons say the pandemic unemployment payment (PUP), combined with lucrative black market nixers for hairdressers working from home, is leading to a staffing “crisis” in the industry.
4. Traffic management on Bunkers Hill needs reform
Waterford councillor Frank Quinlan is questioning the wisdom of a traffic management system put in place to facilitate a development that may not happen. One-way systems direct traffic from the city centre along Hennessy’s road and out onto Bunkers (Manor) Hill.
5. January trial date for Ryan Giggs on ex-girlfriend assault charge
Former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs will face trial next year accused of deliberately headbutting his ex-girlfriend and controlling her throughout their relationship. In a 15-minute hearing at Manchester Crown Court earlier today the date was fixed for proceedings to take place at the same court on January 24th.
6. The sun is returning for the weekend!!
Met Eireann are predicting a sunny weekend in the South East, with the warmest day of the week currently set to be Sunday at 21C, although it will be very warm on Saturday too with highs of 20C possible. Water safety is asking people who are intending on swimming in the sea this weekend to be careful and remember that water temperatures are still around 10-12 degrees.
