1. New restrictions on international travel are likely to be announced next week.
The cabinet is expected to approve suspending visa-free travel from Brazil and South Africa in a bid to prevent new variants of the virus arriving. Meanwhile new data from the Central Statistics Office shows how the 14-day incidence rate of Covid-19 has evolved across Waterford City and County since August. Click here to watch.
2. Des Manahan, one of the godfathers of theatre in Waterford, has died
Des Manahan spent his life on the stage, he was a member of every musical society in Waterford since the 1950s. Des was recognised at the Waterford News & Star Green Room Awards in February of 2020 becoming the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award.
3. Four men jailed over lorry deaths
The four, Maurice Robinson (24), Ronan Hughes (41), Gheorghe Nica (43) and Eamonn Harrison (24), were sentenced earlier today at The Old Bailey. 39 migrants died when they were locked in a lorry on a boat from Zeebrugge to Purfleet in Essex. The victims, all originally from Vietnam, died an "excruciating death" the court was told. The four were handed sentences ranging from 13 to 27 years.
Four men have been sentenced to 27 years, 20 years, 18 years and 13 years four months in prison respectively for the manslaughter of 39 Vietnamese immigrants who were found dead in the back of a lorry in Essex in 2019
