1. Government won't be speeding up lifting of Covid restrictions

The Taoiseach says the government won't be speeding up the lifting of Covid restrictions, because of concerns about the Delta variant. There have been 188 cases of the strain in Ireland so far - but according to NPHET, the pandemic is still shrinking. It comes as government says they are not yet contemplating any recommendation against travel to the North due to the rise in Delta variant cases there.

2. Waterford-based artist launches campaign for positive posters to be put up in the city

The idea is that of Waterford based artist Donal Talbot. It comes after "Straight Pride" posters were put up around the city recently and the pride flags outside city hall were taken down and burned for the second time. Meanwhile, Minister for Equality Roderic O’Gorman will travel to Waterford City on Monday as new pride flags are due to be raised.

3. Still questions to be answered before students return to third level campuses.

So says the President of WIT's student union, John Fortune, who attended an online meeting with the Higher Education Minister earlier this week.
 The plan to return to campus from September was discussed.
 But John says there are a couple of areas in relation to the plan that still need to be sorted.

4. Environmental report finds high levels of nitrogen in River Suir

There is a serious problem with nitrogen concentration in the River Suir, and other South East rivers according to Waterford Green Party TD Marc Ó Cathasaigh . The Environmental Protection Agency’s most recent report found that 20,000 tonnes of nitrogen were discarded into the rivers Barrow, the Nore and the Suir.

5. Fans return to RSC tonight as Blues host Rovers

Waterford FC entertain champions Shamrock Rovers, with the Blues hoping to build on last weekend’s 3-1 win over Dundalk at Oriel Park. 200 season ticket holders will be able to get tickets to the game. Kick-off is at 7:45pm, WLR will bring you game live thanks to McConnell’s Toyota, Waterford with commentary team Ray Scott and Matt Keane.

6. Could a Waterford musician be entering Love Island Villa??

We are not sure about this one but BrandEducation is reporting that Waterford musician Emmet Glascott will enter the Villa, after former winner Jack Fincham announced the news in a video posted on Emmet’s social media. There has been no confirmation from ITV. Watch the video here and see what you think.
