1. New restrictions due on December 28th - Waterford reacts

It is believed that NPHET has advised the government to reintroduce high level 3 restrictions immediately after Christmas to cut the rising numbers of Covid-19. From today people are allowed travel to other counties however its believed that will only be until December 28th. On Deise Today Damien Tiernan got reaction from restaurant owners in Waterford. 2. Numbers in intensive care with Covid-19 increase to 6 in South East

Six people with Covid-19 are in intensive care in the South East. Three patients with the virus are in ICU at St Luke’s in Kilkenny, two are in critical care at University Hospital Waterford and one in Wexford.

3. Fire in Waterford City causes delays

A fire at an ESB transformer in Poleberry earlier today caused major traffic delays in the area. There was also a fire at a private location on The Mall this afternoon which was also attended by Waterford fire service. No-one was injured in either fire.

4. Waterford FC appoint Kevin Sheedy as manager

The former Everton and Liverpool midfielder scored the famous goal against England at Italia ’90 as well as one of the penalties against Romania helping to secure Irelands passage to the quarter finals. Club owner Lee Power welcomed him today.

5. Planets to align for first time in centuries in ‘Christmas star’ effect

Stargazers could spot a bright light in the sky days before Christmas, similar to that which is said to have led the three wise men to the nativity scene, according to an astronomer.

6. Wear Red to Work raises thousands for Christmas Appeal in aid of SVP

The Wear Red Day for the WLR Christmas Appeal took place today in aid of Waterford St Vincent De Paul with over 70 local businesses taking part, including staff at WLR (left). Thousands of euro have been raised from our corporate sponsors, some of whom joined us in the broadcast centre for presentations.
