It effects many in the area who use the Senior Altert system where the can activate an emergency pendant or watch which then places a call to emergency services. Unfortunately without the phone lines in place this system is unavailable.
The Portlaw area has unreliable mobile service so this leaves those more vunerable in the community at risk as they cannot get in contact in cases of emergency, Clune called this a "community lifeline".
