It was confirmed by the HSE yesterday evening that possibly up to 1,500 woman risk being dragged into the developing cervical cancer story.
The HSE confirmed that 3,000 cases of cervical cancer were notified to the cancer registry over the last 10 years and only 1,483 of these cases were reviewed by the national screening programme.
The other 1,500 cases reported will now have to be investigated to understand did these women get a smear test and if so did they wrongly get the all clear.
