Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at UPMC Whitfield in Waterford Ian Kelly talks to Damien Tiernan about the issues relating to private hospitals in the public system.
Mr Kelly says he doesn't believe the current agreement should be renewed when it expires. The agreement has seen the State take over the facilities of private hospitals during the Covid-19 crisis. The deal is reported to cost €115 million per month however, overall figures recently showed occupancy levels in private hospitals were 34 per cent and some had no in-patients.
