Yesterday saw the biggest global jump in confirmed Covid-19 cases since the outbreak began. The World Health Organisation says more than 183,000 new infections were registered, with most of those in North and South America. There have also been small outbreaks in China and South Korea, where lockdown measures have already been eased. Meanwhile no coronavirus deaths were recorded on the island of Ireland yesterday. GP Geoff Plant tells Damien Tiernan that people contacting their GP as soon as they have symptoms is key to keeping the virus suppressed.
There have been more reports of sightings of False Widow Spiders across Waterford during lockdown. Meanwhile research has been carried out by the University of Liege in Belgium which has found the false widow spider's venom is more toxic than originally thought! Damien speaks to John Dunbar, PHD researcher at the 'Venom Systems Laboratory' at NUI in Galway.
A new 'Sexual Experiences Survey' launched today, reveals that almost one in three female students report being sexually assaulted while in college. The survey also shows that these incidences are not confined to women with 10% of male students and 28 percent of non-binary students also report non consensual sex. WIT students union president and welfare officer, John Fortune and Paula Rochford speaks to Damien about the results of the survey.
