The Waterford News And Star and The Munster Express today reported on the difficulties facing patients in University Hospital Waterford as it now ranks 3rd in Ireland in overcrowding and waiting times. Over 600 people on average are waiting on trolleys for beds with some patients experiencing prolonged waiting times of up to 24 hours.
One Waterford resident Liz Murphy was interviewed in the report spent 38 hours on a trolley waiting for a bed after experiencing chest pains.
Speaking on Déise Today this morning she said that she felt her dignity had gone out the door while waiting for such an extended period of time.
