Recent research published by Daft.ie has shown that rent prices have risen in Waterford by 9.1% in the past year.
With the average rents in Waterford county now at €769 and those living in the city paying upwards of €835, many are questioning whether the cost of living is now becoming unaffordable.
Speaking on Déise Today local auctioneer Des Purcell thinks that the problem lies with the fact there are not enough new developments being built.
He says that despite the fact many builders have the essential requirements such as land and financial backing, they are not breaking ground because the return on such developments would not be economically viable.
