Former Tipperary Hurling star turned publican Lar Corbett has come under fire over the weekend for his upcoming Black Friday drinks promotion at his Thurles based bar Coppingers.
The controversy comes as public discussion of the Public Alcohol Bill is moving slowly forward in the Dail and their is much discussion of the impact of reduced price alcohol in supermarkets and deal promotions in bars, specifically aimed at young people.
Corbett's bar have been advertising their Black Friday event where those who bring a full of potential customers can avail of deals on Vodka and Redbull and Pints of Heineken for as low as 99c.
Speaking with Eamon Keane on Deise Today, Eunan McKinney of Alcohol Action Alliance highlighted the problems these deals can cause.
He stated, "this just reflects the model of a price promotion and if a supermarket were to do this in Waterford they would have thousands of people outside their doors as this is their nature...and in context of is this responisble behaviour, and there is a responsiblity when it comes to the sale of alcohol, everybody has the right to do what they want, but equally they have a responasiblity and this does not seem responsible."
