Garda shot with his own gun - Deise Today Thursday 18th June

The Garda who was shot and killed in an incident in Castlerea Co Roscaommon last night has been named as Garda Colm Horkan. It is understood the shooting took place near the Garda station and that during the incident the detective somehow lost control of his gun and was shot with his own weapon. A man was arrested after the shooting and is being held for questioning in Castlerea Garda station. Damien speaks to former Garda Tosh Lavery about the tragedy.

Today the Green Party members will vote on whether to enter into a coalition with Fianna Fail and Fine Gael after the programme for government was decided upon. Some Green Party members are against the coalition, the party needs two thirds of a majority vote. Damien speaks to political correspondent Sean Dafoe about this.

There is also some opposition within the Fianna Fail party. Damien hears from former TD Ollie Wilkinson, Anne Cowman, Tramore party member, John O Leary chairman of Fianna Fail in Waterford and local councillor Jason Murphy.

Also the head of communications with Cork Airport tells Damien that they have implemented a series of public health and hygiene measures across the airport campus to protect and enhance the health and safety of passengers and staff as a result of COVID-19.

Damien speaks to some more retailers and customers about their experience of re-opening for business. He also meets some of the staff members of Azzurro Restaurant's mobile pizza unit who provided free pizza to front line workers over the past few days.
