There was surprise in political circles yesterday when it was announced that Fine Gael Senator Paudie Coffey would not be contesting the upcoming general election.
The Portlaw native had previously served as a TD from 2011-2016, having been a member of the Waterford County council since 1999.
He lost his seat in the 2016 general election and was appointed to the Seanad by the then Taoiseach Enda Kenny in May of that year.
He joins Damien Tiernan in studio to explain his reasons for standing down from politics.
