The sister of Una McDermott who had three heart attacks and died at UHW due to delayed vital treatment, believes the odds were stacked against her. Una McDermott, a well known lecture in horticulture in Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) suffered an acute cardiac event out of hours on Sunday March 4th.
The team for UHW then transferred Una to an ambulance to transfer her to the helicopter that would take her to CUH for vital treatment, but she suffered her third heart attack and was taken back toUHW and placed in intensive care.
Speaking to Eamon her sister Una said she believes that they are a number of situations that need highlighting, "I think its globally known with acute cardiac events that speedy expert intervention is what's needed to improve the outcome."
Paying tribute to her sister she explained to Eamon how Una was very "dedicated" and had a "wide circle of people that enjoyed her company."
Concluding her interview she asked Minister for Health Simon Harris: "Please don't kick this issue to touch for another 19 months because unfortunately next year there will be another family member giving a similar story about someone else."
