One of the leading commentators on European politics has said last night's Brexit extension is a major embarrassment for the British government.
Broadcaster and former spokesperson for Tony Blair, Alastair Campbell believes a second referendum would see Britain stay in the EU.
On Thursday morning's 'Déise Today' on WLR with Damien Tiernan, Alastair Campbell said he thinks that last night's Brexit extension was 'utterly humiliating' for Theresa May and her government.
Speaking to Tiernan from France, Mr Campbell said he believes that if a second referendum was to be held the British public would not vote to leave the EU.
He added it would not be anti-diplomatic if there were to be a second referendum on the vote.
He also commented extensively on the processes which lead to last night’s decision by EU leaders and where next for the Tories and the Labour Party in Britain.
On the same programme, FG MEP for Ireland South, Sean Kelly said that some MEP's believe that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is "simply playing games" with Brexit.
Mr Kelly told Tiernan that just like Alistair Campbell, he believes there will be a second referendum on the Brexit vote.
And Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuiness told “Deise Today” that she found it bizarre that British MEPS would now stand in the European elections and it means that two Irish MEPS will get elected but will not be able to sit in their seats until the UK finally leaves the EU.
