On Tuesday's version of 'Déise Today', Damien was talking to six candidates in the Portlaw/Kilmacthomas constituency in Waterford ahead of the local elections with the vote taking place on Friday, 24th May.
The six candidates taking part were split into two groups with three in each. In group 1 was Sinn Fein Councillor Declan Clune, Fianna Fail councillor John O'Leary and Labour candidate Ger Barron.
In group two, there was Fine Gael candidate Mairead Coffey Jacob as well as two Independent candidates, Ann Troy and Dolores Whelan.
When discussing the major issues that are concerning the people in that area in group 1, Councillor's Clune and O'Leary both said that the problems of housing, as well as healthcare, are the main issues that are affecting people.
The situation at University Hospital Waterford involving the recent mortuary scandal has also raised serious issues with the voters, and both councillors did not feel that Taoiseach Leo Varadkar's apology did enough to negate their fears.

The second debate was an all women affair with the main issues once again being the issues of housing and healthcare.
Fine Gael candidate Mairead Coffey Jacob said that "I work in the HSE and I know the problems that are facing people on the ground and what needs to be done to combat this, unfortunately not enough is being done".
When questioned by Damien about whether Independent councillor's make a difference at a local level, both Ann and Dolores denied that this was the case by claiming that at a local area, both of them work very hard in community groups in order to make sure that the people of their constituency are represented as best that they can.
