On Friday’s version of 'Déise Today', Damien was talking to Phelim O’Neil, Global Market Specialist with ‘The Irish Farmers Journal’.

Phelim was speaking about  Horse meat from Ireland, after dioxins were detected in chilled Irish horse meat distributed to other EU countries.

It has been classed as a serious food risk in the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.

It was confirmed in May that dioxins, which are environmental pollutants, were found at a level of 27.18 ng/kg (21.8 parts per trillion) in chilled Irish horse meat.

Only one instance was reported in the EU’s Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed, so it is probably an isolated incident.

Also on Friday’s version of ‘Déise Today’, Damien was speaking to two members of the new Waterford City and County Council to discuss the mayoralty issue and the new pacts that are taking place within Waterford council.

There is a new pact within the council with Labour, Sinn Féin, the Green Party and various Independents against Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.

This has also caused issues on who will be the newly elected mayor of Waterford with at the moment of writing John Pratt being highly tipped to be the new mayor.

John came onto ‘Déise Today’ this morning to discuss the new pact and declined to comment on whether he’d be the new mayor of Waterford instead wanting to talk about the pact and what this can do for Waterford.

Damien was also talking to Fianna Fail councillor James Tobin who is not apart of this new pact and wanted to make it clear that Fianna Fail were not invited to the table for this. This was refuted by text by Sinn Féin councillor Declan Clune who texted into the show to say that all councillors were asked to join, but Fine Gael and Fianna Fail refused.
