On Tuesday's version of 'Déise Today', Damien was speaking to 4 students of De La Salle and also their teacher Andrias O'Brien to talk about them being bound for Abu Dhabi in November to represent Ireland at the prestigious world finals of the 'F1 In Schools' competition.

The Transition year students who were in studio with Damien were Robert Frost, Aaron Walsh, Sam Walsh and James O'Shea.

The competition is an international STEM competition for school children, aged 9-19, in which groups of 3-6 students have to design and manufacture a miniature car. The students finished 3rd overall in the whole of Ireland, which meant that they qualified for the overall finals which are taking place in the United Arab Emirates.

Since they finished 3rd, they also get support from another team to help and design a car. They have the support of another school from the UAE, and they are saying that even though there is a difficult language barrier, it is interesting to be doing it with another school from a different culture.

They also have to fundraise to get there, Mr O'Brien says "it's in and around the 25 thousand mark that we have to raise, we are hopeful that we will be able to get it".

The two organisers were Neil Kelly and Jim ‘Flash’ Gordan. Jim runs several venues throughout the county including Oskars and also Revolution in Waterford City.

They both saw how good the ‘Live At The Marquee’  does in Cork City and saw the potential that something similar to this would be massive for the city. The marquee tent has been called ‘Big Top Live’.

They have brought out the details on that the large 55-foot circus tent would be set up in the Gasworks in Waterford and would include acts such as Keith Barry and many others that are to be introduced over the next week.

Neil and Jim are asking for the Waterford public to get behind this initiative and you can get tickets at ‘Big Top Live’.
