On Monday's version of 'Déise Today', Damien had several guests on the show throughout the day to review the results of yesterday's local election count and to dissect everything that happened.
Damien started by chatting to Sinn Féin TD for Waterford David Cullinane and the party's failure to improve on the seats that they had gained in the 2014 elections.
TD Cullinane did not believe that now is the time to be questioning on whether Mary Lou McDonald should still be the leader of Sinn Féin. He stated that "I still believe that Mary Lou is the right women to lead Sinn Féin and I will be giving my support to her as well, she is the right leader for us".
Damien also had successful candidates in the elections such as Donal Barry, Jody Power and Adam Wyse on the show to talk about their joy with getting elected onto the council. First-time electees Donal Barry and Jody Power could not hide their enthusiasm with getting elected while Adam was happy to his voters that he could now continue to do the work that he has always done in the community for his voters.
On the show also was Ciarin De Buis, CEO of 'Women For Election' to talk about how only 2 out of the 32 councillors who were voted onto the council were women. The 2 women that were elected were Breda Brennan of Sinn Féin in Waterford South and Lola O'Sullivan of Fine Gael in Waterford West.
Ciarin was disappointed with the number of women who were elected onto the council and stated that maybe it was due to the 50% turnout of voters that might have had an impact on this.
