On Thursday's 'Déise Today', Maria was talking to several people on the idea that election posters should not be used anymore.
People are questioning whether these posters have the same effect that they used to have due to the impact of social media. Also, people feel that environmentally, these posters are a hazard and so should not be used.
Speaking on this topic with Maria was Grace O’Sullivan, Green party senator for Waterford who is also a candidate for European elections. Grace has been conflicted recently as she did not want to use any posters for her campaign for environmental reasons. However, on the advice of her campaign manager, she felt that she had to use a “limited amount of them to get my message and face across to people”. Without them, she felt that her campaign would suffer as a result.
Also speaking on the topic was Elaine Loughlin, political correspondent with 'The Irish Examiner'.
Elaine feels that it is a difficult decision to be made for councillors as she says "on the one hand with the posters it allows you as a candidate to get your name and your face out, however environmentally we know what damage that it does do".
Also speaking was Ian Noctor, a local election candidate for Fine Gael in Dungarvan. Ian feels that unfortunately if you do not use the posters you are putting yourself in a situation where your reach maybe is not as wide by the look

Also on Thursday's show, Maria was talking to Rob Landers who is a Consultant Pathologist at University Hosptial Waterford.
Rob along with three of his colleagues submitted a letter to the HSE to tell them about the lack of refrigeration for dead bodies in the mortuary.
It tells the story of bodily fluids leaking on to the floor and bodies decomposing in corridors.
