On Tuesday's 'Déise Today', Damien was talking to four independent candidates in the upcoming Local Elections for the Waterford City South Ward.
The four candidates taking part in this debate were councillors Cha O’Neil, Sean Reinhardt as well as two new local candidates Donal Barry and Vivienne Burns.
The first question that was posed to the candidates involved would these candidates be in favour of a directly elected mayor.
All 4 of these candidates voted no to these proposals due to a couple of reasons. The first of which was that the wage was too high. Cllr O’Neil says that “simply the wage is just too high”.
The question was also asked to the candidates if they can make real significant change within the council since they are independents.
All four also agreed that because they don't have to listen to party politics, they can fulfil the needs of the people who voted for them and make a more significant change.
