On Thursday's 'Déise Today', Damien was talking to Hugo Boyle. Hugo is the CEO of the 'South and East Fish Producers' organisation.
Hugo was in to talk with Damien about his genuine fears about the threat that Brexit poses to the Irish fishing industry and what is going to happen, no matter if it is a yes or a no deal.
Hugo is concerned about some of the fishing communities such as Passage East and Ardmore in that Brexit might decimate these communities. He says that apart from the fishing, a small bit of farming and some tourism that "these communities don't have much else".
Hugo says that because "the majority of fisherman's lives are spent out at sea it is tough to organise any protests. He says that his body the 'South and East Fish Producers' have tried to do their best throughout the years but because of the nature of the job as a fisherman and the risks involved, it can be quite tricky to organise them all into one unit.
However, he does feel that the government is making it difficult for Irish fisherman with the quota issue and that they are putting "fisherman's lives at risk".
He says that the government is doing its best for the Brexit issue and sees no problem with how they are handling it however, for the quota issue, he feels that Irish fisherman are getting the short end of the stick.
