On Monday's version of 'Déise Today', Damien was talking to Ger Breen, proprietor of Garvey's bar in Ballytruckle.
Garvey's is a popular pub in Waterford City and would be well frequented with people of the Poleberry, Ballytruckle and as far out as St. Johns Park for people.
Ger had made the tough decision to close down the pub last Thursday night, and Damien had gone out to the pub to chat with the locals about the pub and how much they are going to miss it.
One local man talked about the death of rural pubs in Ireland and how now a lot of older pubs are seeing the same thing happen to them. "They talk about the death of rural pubs, but no we're seeing the death of pubs not just in the countryside, but in the city too".
There was the chat of great memories in the pub; one talked about "after a match in Kilcohan park one time, the Cork Celtic team came in after the match and had their sandwiches in the pub, it was a very funny moment".
Ger said that he is closing the pub for several reasons, one of which being that he and his wife have been working in that pub for a long time now and they want to do something different in their lives.
He did, however, want to put on the record of the gratitude that he has felt towards everyone that has been wishing him and his family well wishes after the closure of the pub. " I didn't want to make a huge deal out of it".
