On Wednesday's 'Déise Today' this morning, Damien was talking to Jen Hogan who is a mother of seven and also a well-known blogger of 'Mamatude'.
Jen was speaking about her worry that parents today should not be wasting all of their time with their kids simply ferrying their children to after-school activities. She argues that time is precious especially with their children and that they should spend more time with them. Jen is, however, not saying that parents should simply just throw away all of their child's after-school activities, but simply should be picking and choosing what is best for their child while also best for the parents so that they get some quality bonding times.
She thinks that we let our kids go to all of these events because as parents they see what other kids are doing and feel that they, as parents also have to match this. She feels that even in her own situation that "I tried to let my daughter do everything and I was running myself ragged". Jen feels that "her quality of life as a family was gone". She says that kids learn to preoccupy themselves as well when they don't have all of these after-school activities which can help them out in the long term.
