Dr Brian Creedon, Consultant Palliative Medicine Physician and Solas Center Board member has described the misdiagnosis of a number of cervical cancers as "worrying."
Speaking to Maria on a personal basis he said: " I'm here as a member of the public, as well as a cancer specialist, who is very concerned over what happened and is following this story with interest and upset like everybody else."
He believes that cancer screening is very important as they do prevent a very high percentage of people being diagnosed with cancer.
"It's really important that people do participate in these cancer screening programmes because they won't prevent every cancer but they do prevent a very high percentage of people being diagnosed with cancer.
He believes in order to "reassure" people a "quick review" is needed and the results should be communicated to the public.
"People must have confidence if they are participating in a screening program," concluded Dr Creedon
