A Waterford Senator has described the possibility of the Southeast been left without psychiatric care for children as a "diabolical" situation.
Children is the Southeast may be left without Psychiatric services, following the resignation of three Psychiatrists based in the South East from August 2017.
Speaking on to Eamon Senator Grace O'Sullivan said: "It's has been just a huge shock really and it has now come to the Waterford,Wexford door and the Southeast, once again this region is suffering."
The Senator is " extremely concerned" about this as it could leave the Southeast without consultant psychiatrists from mid July.
"I'm so incensed about it, this morning I am going to the Seanad to try and amend the order of business to bring in Minister of health, Minster Harris into the Seanad to ask him questions because this will leave the Southeast without no consultant Psychiatrists, potentially from mid-July," said the Waterford Senator.
An Oíreachtas Committee has heard from Dr Kieran Moore, a specialist consultant pediatric Psychiatrist who said that he and his colleagues were resigning from their position because of "unsafe conditions."
The HSE has assured the public that they are committed to filling such Consultant posts with a national and international recruitment campaign ongoing.
