1. Construction contract for the second Cath Lab awarded

There has been a big step forward in delivering a comprehensive cardiac service at University Hospital Waterford. A construction contractor has been appointed to build the second Catheterisation Laboratory.

2. Construction representatives urge Government to reopen the sector

Representative bodies from the construction industry are calling on the Government to reopen the sector under the planned easing of restrictions on April 5th. The Taoiseach is due to announce the updated measures next week, after over two months of Level 5 restrictions.

3. TUSE to be up and running by January 2022

WIT President Willie Donnelly told Damien Tiernan on todays Deise Today that the ‘mock’ interviews for Technological University status went very well and he firmly believes Waterford and the South East will have Technological University recognition on January 1st next.

4. Ulster Bank fined nearly €38 million for tracker mortgage scandal.

Ulster Bank has been fined nearly €38 million by the Central Bank of Ireland for regulatory breaches relating to its role in the industry-wide tracker mortgage scandal.

5. TSSG becomes ‘Walton Institute’

A Waterford-born Nobel laureate has been honoured through the renaming of Waterford Institute of Technology’s research wing TSSG which will now be called after renowned physicist Dr Ernest Walton. Born in Dungarvan in 1903, he was jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for being the first to split the atom artificially.

6. Waterford Greenway marks 4th Birthday

It's 4 years to the day since the Waterford Greenway officially opened. Since then it has become one of the biggest tourist attractions in the county, with almost 250,000 people using the facility in its first 10 months. The 46km long Greenway was officially opened by Minister Simon Coveney and Mayor at the time Adam Wyse.
