UPDATED 15:55

As many as 20 thousand households have lost power across County Waterford today as a result of the storm.

Six thousand of those are part of the Butlerstown ESB network, with a similar number of households in West Waterford also suffering a power outage. There are further power outages in Cappoquin, Colligan, Clashmore, Tallow, Glencairn, Ballyduff Upper, Dunmore East, and Tramore.

According to ESB's manager for the region, John Morrissey, Storm Ophelia has "gone beyond" their expectations.

John Morrissey from ESB says the outages are concentrated around West Waterford. He also thinks it could be several days before power can be returned:

"At the moment our numbers are beginning to rate up to what they were during [2014's] Storm Darwin, so that took four or five days [to return power]. But really we're going to have to wait until we can give any information to the public, until this thing actually blows through and we can get our damage assessors out on site," Mr Morrissey told WLR.

More updates as we get them.
