Waterford Fine Gael councillor Liam Brazil has decided not to run in the General Election.
He had been asked by the party to run on the ticket alongside councillors Damien Geoghan and John Cummins.
He told WLR News that he considered the offer but has turned it down.
John Cummins has praised his party colleague and says he and Damien Geoghan will now try to get the backing of Liam Brazil's supporters:
"Liam Brazil is an excellent councillor; he's a big vote getter in the Comeragh area. He's a very important part of the Fine Gael team. He's one of the hardest working councillors on the ground in terms of representations on a daily basis. If he had decided to run, as I said during the week, I would have wished him the best of luck. The fact that he hasn't decided to run, both Damien and I will be hoping to try and get Liam's supporters to come behind either of us."
