West Waterford Suicide Prevention: Stand Back & Watch This  18th October

West Waterford Suicide Prevention is delighted to announce a special evening of music, support, and remembrance at the Sportsman Bar, Cappoquin, on Friday, 18th October 2024, starting at 7pm. Entrance is free, and all are welcome to join for this meaningful night in support of the community.

The evening will feature a cheque presentation to West Waterford Suicide Prevention by Stand Back & Watch This, a group of three local lads who have been raising awareness and funds for mental health initiatives in the region. Ryan, Jack and Cillian O'Connor, three gutsy cousins from Cappoquin, weren't content with just talking about making a change - they decided to pedal their way into action. This summer, fuelled by determination and a passion for their community, the trio embarked on an epic continental cycle across Europe.

Their remarkable efforts have culminated in this donation, which will go towards supporting the organisation's ongoing work in promoting mental health and suicide prevention across West Waterford.

In a show of admiration for their achievement, local councillor and WWSP Chair, Donnachadh Mulcahy remarked:

"They said it couldn't be done... They were wrong! The lads achieved their goal after cycling from Amsterdam to Athens and raising over €15,000. Well done, lads—what a great achievement and an unbelievable amount of money raised. We are lucky to have lads like them in our community."

In addition to the presentation, the night will feature live music by ‘Out the Gap’, for a night of coming together, honouring lives lost, raising awareness, and celebrating the strength of the community in facing mental health challenges. WWSP invite you to join them on Friday 18th October in Cappoquin for a show of support, togetherness, and hope for the future.

The new West Waterford Suicide Prevention brochures and stickers for display in public venues are also now being distributed throughout West Waterford. These guides are packed with vital information on mental health resources, support services, and ways we can all work together to prevent suicide.
