The Waterford Local Hero 2023 Search Has Been Whittled Down To 4
And it's now time to have your say on who is the Waterford Local Hero 2023!
A New Local Hero search is part of the Irish Music Month campaign. Each radio station involved has campaigned for original local musicians and bands to submit their music to be in with a chance of winning a prize fund of €10,000. Over the past number of weeks, over 50 original artists from Waterford submitted tracks for WLR's A Local Hero search. Irish Music Month runs for the month of March in association with Independent Broadcasters of Ireland the BAI Sound and Vision Fund and the music publication Hot Press.
Voting for your Waterford Local Hero 2023
Our judging panel had a very hard task to whittle the entries down to four. Each of the acts recorded live versions of their entries in front of 2 judges, and we want YOU to be the 3rd judge.
Public voting is now underway. You can vote below, but first, have a look at the videos of the artists here...
Back Road Smokers Club
This Waterford ensemble blends funky beats, jazzy chords and psychedelic rock. The band consists of 5 core members that build to a larger group of up to 12 for the festivals.
Cal Pacino
Cal Pacino is a five-piece ensemble. This dynamic group is quickly building a profile, thanks in no small part to their distinct sound that seamlessly blends elements of jazz, hip hop, and dream pop.
Etaoin
Etaoin started writing songs at the age of 10 and grew up listening to the likes of Taylor Swift, and Avril Lavigne. She already has a couple of releases out which have brought her some attention. The likes of Amazon and Hotpress have graced her with a "One To Watch" nod.
Raya Mae
At just 17 years old, Raya Mae is probably the freshest face in the Waterford music scene. She released her first song in 2022 and did a few live gigs during those summer months. She really is one to watch.
