Taste Waterford's Mountain Splendour Taste Tour
Waterford's unique landscape plays home to some of the country's finest food producers. And you now have the opportunity to experience it for yourself at Taste Waterford's Mountain Splendour Taste Tour.
On Friday, September 15th, join Taste Waterford and tour guide Johnny Landers to explore the beautiful Comeragh Mountains with local food producers. Some of the highlights include -
- Shepherding with Willie Drohan of Comeragh Mountain Lamb
- Sustainable farming from Clotilde Kiely, Comeragh Mountain Farm
- Mountain foraging with expert Andrew Malcolm, where you’ll learn what’s edible, and not!
- A visit to the stunning Mahon Falls, where you’ll meet sheep farmer Willie Drohan.
- Lunch at Cooney’s Yard
- Food producer stories
This Taste Tour will give you a true insight into passionate producers, food stories passed down through the generations, and scenic splendour that can only come from Co. Waterford’s mountains in Ireland’s Ancient East.
Taste Waterford's Mountain Splendour Taste Tour Itinerary
10 am – Granville Hotel, Waterford City
The Taste Tour starts in the foyer of the four-star Granville Hotel in Waterford City where you’ll meet your tour guide Johnny Landers.
10.45 am – Foraging at Crough Wood
Your foraging experience is with expert Andrew Malcolm – a forager and adventurer since his youth. His knowledge of the landscape and understanding of the flora and what’s edible is enthralling, leaving you with a unique appreciation of the mountainous landscape.
Brief comfort stop at Crough Coffee.
12.10 pm – Comeragh Mountain Farm
Next, you’ll visit the stunning Comeragh Mountain Farm in Ballynamult to meet Clotilde Kiely. Her passion in sustainable, organic farming for leafy and seasonal vegetables along with pasture-raised poultry is inspiring.
1.35 pm – Mahon Falls
Here you will see the spectacular Mahon Falls and meet Willie Drohan of Comeragh Mountain Lamb. Whose family has been farming in the mountains for six generations. He’ll talk about farming in the seasons and show the landmarks that only a local can.
Following Mahon Falls, a short drive takes you to Willie again with his Scottish Blackface sheep, where you’ll see shepherding in action, and get to experience first-hand farming in the mountains.
2.05 pm – Lunch at Cooney’s Yard
Willie Drohan greets you at award-winning Comeragh Mountain Lamb and his family eatery – Cooney’s Yard – where lunch is included. It’s a converted farmhouse and stables where you can taste the uniqueness of mountain lamb (when in season), or enjoy a delicious set menu.
3.50 pm – Granville Hotel, Waterford City
The Taste Tour ends at the Granville Hotel, with an opportunity to explore the history and culture of Ireland’s oldest city.
